Stoic Wheels is a small bike focused company based in Portland Oregon, and at this point is solely operated by me, Brian Pagel. I have a lifetime of experience on the bike, and over 15 years of professional shop experience with thousands of happy wheels on the roads and trails. I can provide you with a ground up walk through on your hand built bike wheels, to ensure you get the right wheels to take you on whatever journey you might choose.

I began my cycling journey at a young age with BMX bikes in my hometown in Wyoming, and was even in a four person BMX “gang”. I don’t recall the name of the gang, but I’m sure it was awesome! Went to my first bike race in the mid 80’s that I still have the original artwork for. Saved all of my lawn mowing money that summer to pick myself up a sweet Schwinn at the Coast to Coast that I rode for several years. Sadly fell out of cycling through most of my high school years, and a couple years after, but picked it back up shortly after moving to Portland in 1999, with an old GT Zaskar that was later stolen from me. In 2005 I did a cross coun try tour, and started playing bike polo more regularly, and decided I wanted to take it more seriously. Started learning the craft of wheel building and bike maintenance, took the full complement of courses at UBI, and decided to give up my full time structural design job to pursue it. Since then I have been involved in early beginnings of Bike Farm, some racing, many smaller tours, lots of bike polo, and fell in love with riding in the mountains. I started building wheels full time for a local shop, and eventually headed up the service department there, before starting Stoic Wheels in 2016.
